FAQ

Frequently asked

Why does WalkMate need my location?
Location is used to verify that you reached a route's check-in points and to power nearby route discovery. You stay in control — check-ins only happen when you tap to confirm at a spot.
How does my pet grow?
Your step count is converted into energy for your pixel companion. The more you walk and check in, the more your pet hatches, grows, and unlocks decorations in the shop.
How do I add friends?
Open the Friends tab and share your invite code, or scan a friend's QR code. Both sides confirm before you're connected, so friendships are always mutual.
Can I create my own routes?
Yes. With the co-creation module you can design your own hiking routes and set exploration points for classmates to discover. When other students explore your route, you earn creator points — a way to recognise community leadership and creativity.
Do I need an account to play?
You can start right away with an anonymous profile. When you're ready to sync across devices or keep your progress safe, you can upgrade to a full account with Google sign-in or email & password.
How do I delete my data or account?
In the app, go to Settings → Delete my data. This permanently removes the data tied to your account from our servers. If you would prefer we do it for you, email walkmate@efan.dev from the address on your account and we will process the request.
The app isn't tracking my steps — what now?
Make sure motion & fitness permission is enabled: on iOS check Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness, and on Android allow the Physical activity permission. Then reopen WalkMate. Still stuck? Email us with your device details.
Which devices are supported?
WalkMate runs on recent iOS and Android phones. Walking features work best on a device that reports step counts (Apple Health / Google's activity sensors).
